Manx Whale and Dolphin Watch have had a huge increase of sightings of basking sharks. The sharks are enjoying a bumper crop of pink plankton around the west coast of the Island.

Bottlenose dolphins return this October and stay until March. Pods can contain up to 200 dolphins. Moonlight and Starlight, the Island’s resident dolphins are often seen in Peel.

Politics

At 18 years old, Daniel Davison has become the youngest MHK in Manx history, elected to the House of Keys for Glenfaba and Peel on Thursday night, securing 1,147 votes.

In 1985, Peter Karran, who was elected at the age of 25.

Planning

Plans to build in the grounds of a historic ‘Arts and Crafts’ house in Douglas have been rejected by the island’s planning committee.

Proposals had been submitted to demolish the rear extension at Leyton on Victoria Road and to repair the historic portion of building while adding a new sperate detached house to the garden.

Transport

Repairs to the Manxman will cost more than £2.5m, according to documents released under Freedom of Information. The documents reveal concerns about the £78m vessel’s long-term suitability for operations in the Irish Sea.

Constructed in 2021, the craft has had a series of problems and has been in dry dock since July.

Sport

Kaytlyn Adshead and Great Britain regained the Women’s title at this year’s Trial des Nations held in Spain. This is the third time the Island competitor has been part of a winning team, with previous success in 2023 and 2024.
