Quakers hold the common belief ‘that of God in everyone’ and so have an interest in social equality.
The burial ground for Manx Quakers, dates from the mid sixteen hundreds. By the 1670s, there were roughly fifty Quakers living on the Island, mostly in Maughold. Some Quakers were imprisoned for their beliefs which included refusing to take oaths or pay taxes.
The land was donated by William Callow, himself a Quaker, and this is where he was buried in 1676.
