Participants can come along and try one of the 3 orienteering courses available (Beginner, Intermediate, Challenge).

Registration, Start and Finish is from the enlarged Southern Car Park on the Eairy Kelly road.  Registration is from 9:30am – 10:20am with individual start times from 9:30am – 10:30am.

Participants have to navigate in order to different orienteering control flag locations marked on their map and pin-punch their scorecard at each control flag to prove they have visited it.  Participants must report to the finish by 12:30pm at the latest, even if they do not complete their course, as this is when the activity courses close.

The 3 courses available provide different levels of navigation challenge for participants –

Beginner – a short course with easy to find control flags at tracks and path junctions or major features.

Intermediate – a medium length course with some navigational choices where control flags are placed at similar locations to the beginner course as well as some at distinct features slightly off tracks and paths.

Challenge – a longer course with various navigation challenges where control flags are placed at a mixture of features both on and away from paths and tracks in the forest and the use of line features may be needed to help with navigation.

This family friendly activity is suitable for people of all ages and skill level and is an ideal opportunity for individuals, families or groups of friends to come along and try this popular activity.  Children must be under the supervision of an adult.

Participants can walk or run, and suitable footwear and clothing should be worn for weather and underfoot conditions on the day.  A compass is optional to assist with navigation.  Guidance on what to do can be given by members of Isle of Man Orienteering Klubb if you are trying this activity for the first time.
