The first air gun was invented by Girandoni Bortolomeo in 1780 for the Austrian army during the Nepoleonic Wars. The difference between an airgun and a firearm is that an airgun uses pressurized air or gas as opposed to the combustion of a chemical reaction. Airguns can fire pellets, shot, BBs, darts and arrows depending on type.
