Onchan Silver Band

Onchan Commissioners, Main Road, Onchan, IM3 1RD

On the 15th March 1937 it was agreed to form the Onchan Silver Band. Membership rules were adopted, membership cards issued, rules written and approved, and subscriptions set at 3d per week. The first official concert took place at the Avenue Cinema (now Royal Court Apartments). The band took part in a great number of island-wide events, from ploughing matches to church fetes until the start of World War II when the bandroom was requisitioned by the home guard and instruments were stored. In the 1950s it looked like the band would be unable to continue but with renewed interest it has continued to this day.
