The old swimming baths, opened in 1896 and officially closed in the 1950s, although people have still swum until recently. The steep stairs wine down to an enclosed bathing area that fills at high tide. Originally there were also changing rooms.
The Lido at the end of Peel promenade replaced the sea baths. The Lido itself closed in the 1990s to be replaced by Western (Indoor) Swimming Pool.
